Me, Myself & Opera

Hi COI students. In case you happened to read my blog, which I think most students don't, you are invited to my place for drinking session at this coming Saturday, 30 Jan. Actually it was YH who suggested the drinking session and she wanted it to be before our teacher goes back to Taiwan. So after much debate, we decided to have the session on this coming Sat, my place, 7pm. Please come if you are free!

Last year on the previous guanyin birthday, I did this short excerpt of 陈三五娘 with uncle Lim at the Thian Hock Temple. It wasn't well done because I only rehearsed it twice and I sort of forgot alot of things. LOL. We didn't have time so we just make do with it. Overall still ok la. Just now I found this video on youtube of that show I did. I didn't know it was online till my friend, ponyo, told me. The quality of this video is good! I wonder how he uploaded it in such clear quality. I did some mistakes, uncle was perfect tho of course, he is the teacher. Ponyo is the one playing pipa behind. :)

Recently, Ponyo (AKA Cai YaYi) uploaded this video compiling some of the performances that we did in SL. This video was done by her hubby, quite well done I think. The music is nice too. You can see me in the video! LOL, but I look like woodblock inside. Never mind. Can't recognize me anyway. Just see it!

Recently, I found this very very nice clip online. It's a performance using water sleeves. It's so nice I want to cry lor! Then I also found this promotional video about a show that exhibits the costumes of chinese opera. I think the music is very nice and the performance, trust me, is superb. It is very elegantly done. And here is a nice poster I found online. I am now looking for this DVD but I don't think it's out. Also, I hope they come to Singapore to perform lor. I will definitely go see! It's so nice I want to cry! Hahaha.... Here is the clip of the 'so nice I want to cry' water sleeves performance: Did you cry after watching it? I think I am mad. Sometimes I see some super nice opera videos or photos. I feel like crying. I feel very touched by it. I dunno why I am like that. I think I am reallhy crazy lor or like my teacher once said, I am probably an opera actress in my previous life. LOL.

In my previous post, I mentioned that Mdm Ang is going to perform 薛丁山与樊梨花, apparently, there is a major turn over today. Many roles has been switched. For one, I was switched from doing 樊梨花 to doing 薛金莲 which I did a few times before in the past. I think it's been a long time since I acted as 薛金莲. This role is 薛丁山 twin sister. LOL. I still find it funny that they are twins. 薛金莲 is also a 武旦 but this role don't really do a lot of fighting on stage. I would be lying if I say that I am not disappointed at the change. I was a little disappointed cuz I quite like this role de mahh. Later on, Ang said that she didn't know if she should let YH do 秦汉or 窦一虎. Hearing that, I immediately told her that she should let YH do 窦一虎. Since I am doing 薛金莲, I hope that YH can do 窦一虎 because they are a couple and I like to do couple with YH also. I like to be her 娘子！HAHA.. cuz I think we match. Ang agreed so I am happy again. Most probably, Ang will let May Teng do 樊梨花. Ok lah, let May fulfil h...

Last week, Ang told me that we are going to act 薛丁山与樊梨花 again. This time we are going to extend it to a one hour show. We have acted the one hour version before at Braddell Heights CC. I remember that time, I was acting as 薛金莲. I just found out recently that 薛金莲 is 薛丁山 twin sister! LOL. I didn't know this until I saw the series on TV recently. Now I know that they are twins. Some interesting facts... So this time we will be doing this show for one hour and I think May is going to do 薛金莲. She has been wanting to do 樊梨花 for a long time and by right, it should be her who is doing this role this time but unfortunately, she went MIA for a long time and now that she returned, she is lagging behind le. Moreover, we didn't have a long time to rehearse. We will be acting on 13 Mar. Ang will be going back to TW on 8 Feb and returning on 1 Mar. We got like about 3 weeks to rehearse it. Recently, we started to rehearse this show, 邯郸记. I remembered the last time I acted it, the script really sucks. It is broken up in pieces and alot of things were just processed roughly. I think the audience must be bewildered and didn't know what the story is about. That time when I acted this show, it was done in 越剧 format. LOL. So IT right.. now we are going to do it in 歌仔戏 format. Needless to say, teacher ang will need to rewrite almost the whole script to change the language into hokkien. Right now though we are rehearsing, she is still making changes to the script. I wanted to act as the emperor in the show but unfortunately, this role was assigned to YH. Damn. YH first time get to do emperor but she doesn't seem excited at all. I was assigned to do a missy role. This role is a lead role but then I don't appear too often on stage. It's not as heavy as other lead roles in other shows. The only heavy role in this show is the male lead. Ang got to act from the start ...
