Me, Myself & Opera

梨园戏《陈三五娘》 Yesterday, we performed the above show at Tian Hock Keng Temple which is just behind COI. I was quite stressed over the show because I didn't rehearse enough and I don't even remember my lines very well. As 梨园戏 has its own preset actions, I have to remember all the actions very well if not I will miss a beat and be slower than the other actresses. In the end, I still made some blunders. Uncle lim will forgive me one... right? :P Thanks to Aaron for the beautiful pictures he took for us! The first scene we did was 睇灯. I still remember that I converted this scene some year back int Gezaixi. It was a disaster because when we were on stage, the CD jammed! What the hell lor. Then we all kana stuck there so paiseh! Our musicians that night. They didn't play the opera part for us tho cuz alot of students are having exams so we don't have enough musicians. They did some other musical pieces. Our 当家小生, Uncle Lin. So many things to write about kunqu lor! I realised that I wrote about kunqu more than any other opera types. HAahaha. I simply love it so much. A few days ago, I was surfing net trying to find some nice opera photos to keep as reference. I first looked under Yueju and couldn't find alot. To my surprse, I found more nice pictures of kunqu than yueju. I tot that I will find more yueju nice photos. There were quite a number of new productions in the kunqu genre. Though some are not very new. I am not sure... cuz I live in Singapore and I don't have much access to such information. :( Here are a few photos I found of the production 西厢记. The photos are very pretty and costumes are nice too! How beautiful... I love the costumes~! This version apparently is done by the earlier kunqu actresses. Then I found the 厅堂版牡丹亭. 丽卿 臣在 你就随寡人来啊~ Just acted this very short clip of 游上林 with susan. And it is really very short, I cut it to 7 min only cuz the show only require us to perform for about that length. Susan say so short, like didn't really acted anything at all. Short or long, also must act well. I realised that after so long of not acting as sheng or say.. disguised sheng, I totally lost it leh. Dunno if it's because I didn't rehearse it alot or wat but I keep forgetting that I am acting sheng. My water sleeves movements keep doing wrong, I keep doing it the dan way and it is really frustrating! I was very unhappy with my performance that day. As usual, Susan again, driving with her wig on this time. Without the emperor crown though. I advised her not to put on the crown. It will be very difficult to drive. AC very funny lor. Told me that he drove with the costume on before. Very mah fan leh I can imagine, with the costume hanging arund obstructing your movements. Not to mention very dangero...
