Me, Myself & Opera

In case you guys are hoping to see the ugly me on stage, too bad, you are not gonna get the chance to see it because I am removed from acting Subana and WZ is once again assuming the role. This is madness lor but heck la. They can do what they want and I am sincerely and I really mean sincerely happy that I don't have to act that day. I can kiao ka, la kopi and take many photos of the people on stage. This is the first time ever that I can take stage photos of my comrades. I must take nice pics lor and blog them here.... Hopefully I don't have to do shit also like taking care of the mics or drawing the curtains. Hee hee.. then I can take photos peacefully.

We acted Ramayana on 22.06.08 at Ubi CC. Unfortunately, I didn't take many photos that day because I was in a bad mood. Depressed, sian and pek cek. The only photos I have are of myself, YH and KL. I think I need to get more photos from the others but haven't got the chance to do it yet. I think WR got some photos of the other people. Must get some from her to blog. There has been a 360 degrees turn of events for our Ramayana show. 1) Chua wants CBX to act as princess on 29 June. I am totally fine with that cuz I am sick and hope to rest after this Sunday's show. If not I cannot have a speedy recovery. I am ok to act only 1 day. Moreover, Chua will be there to watch the show on 29 June so he can go kp at CBX and I can escape his nagging. 2) The malays suddenly cannot join us in the performance. We got the news yesterday that the 2 malays cannot act for us on this coming sunday. It was a devastating news for both Ang and Li. Now they are having a headache to find 2 replacements for them. One of them does the birdie and the other does the soldier. The birdie is more difficult with more fighting and actions. 3) Ang suddenly got the bright idea to let me do birdie on 29th! I don't mind doing birdie though its a smaller role and not as glamorous but my rest for the week 'pao tang' already. Meaning next week I must still go COI to rehear...

Gonna talk about May again. Recently she has been unbelievably hardworking. As you all know, she is not going to act on these 2 coming shows because of her face. However, she still comes to COI on every rehearsal to learn Qy's role as Ke Fei. Ke Fei is the evil concubine and she forces the emperor to give the throne to her own son. This role has got only one scene and it's the 1st scene. So, basically the person acting as ke fei and the emperor and relax and la kopi at backstage after 1st scene. Good right, maybe I want to learn this role also. Back to May, she told me she has been eyeing this role since the day we did Ramayana at Victoria. At first she liked both Subana and Ke Fei (Subana is the crazy princess, cai dan). Unfortunately, this Iran version of Subana has been altered by Chua so May no longer eyeing for it. This Saturday SL is going to participate in the Sheng Siong Show, 缤纷万千在昇菘. I have never watched this variety show before as it is broadcasted on every Saturday 8pm and most of the times, I am not at home at this time. SL is going to perform a short 4 min nanyin cum liyuan dance item at the opening of the show I think. I saw them rehearsing it yesterday for the Mediacorp people. This time, SL has invited another Nanyin Singer from China named Ya yi to perform with us. She will also be performing at Esplanade with us on 6 July. I think she has a great voice, try to hear her on this coming Saturday. Someone told me before that she got the 'golden voice', jin sang zi. SL offered me tickets to watch The Sheng Siong Show live this saturday but I highly suspect that I am going to have a late rehearsal that day. Better not risk it. Just ended the performance at Jurong for Naiba. Just in case those of the readers who are still unsure who is naiba, I will re-intro again. He is my godfather and the troupe leader of 'Xiao Yu Long Hokkien Opera Troupe'. He most actively perform street opera in the west area and he is a very vain xiao sheng. Ok.. back to the topic. A few of us helped out with Naiba's performance though we were very busy and packed with our own schedules. Especially for me as I am juggling COI, SL and Naiba's show at the same time. Quite taxing lor. Fortunately, Naiba gave me a maid role in this show, Kong Que Dan aka Peacock's Gut. I wasn't so stress because this maid role only appear in 4 scenes and has got only 2 songs. I practiced my song with Ziken beforehand to make life easier. hee hee... Qian Yun da jie acted as Zhao Ying, the female lead, Naiba acted as Guan Mu Er, the male lead and YH acted as Duan Gong. Once again we did a show for Naiba yesterday in Jurong. I didn't want to do it at first because of the tight schedule and the clashes in rehearsals but as usual, Naiba pleaded meso hard, I paiseh to say no but I told him I can only act for 1 days. Before blogging about the performance, I am going to blog about the rehearsals first. All rehearsals were carried out at my void deck and we created such a din that people complained after 10:30pm. Got people practicing their songs with Ziken... Got people rehearsing seriously... Got people sit there chit chat and eat tidbits.... Bala, you already so fat still eat lor.. How to be xiaosheng like that? And lastly, got people smoking while rehearsing at the same time. Ah Sam is quite a potential actor I think. Sing ok, movements not bad.. but his weak point is that he is not confident enough. Too nervous on stage. Remember I blogged a long long time ago about this xiaosheng I like very much, Shi Xiao Mei? She is a kunqu opera actress and I like her very much for the way she act and her voice. I think she sang very well. I was surfing youtube and I came across a video clip of her! What a rare find. It is quite hard to find things about kunqu and I happent to come across Shi Xiao Mei's video.. So happy~　 Yes de, I gonna blog that video clip.

Wanru, our new member, whom I featured a bit in my previous post has got a blog liao. Hopefully it's the final one cuz she got lots of blogs. I have also added her to my link just like MD did. Hee hee.. Wanru is our shi mei but hor she is older than me lah.. She always call me shi jie or senior which is very weird cuz we never got this culture in COI to call each other shi jie, shi mei. Please dun call me senior or shi jie lor, paiseh leh... hahahaha.. Some more like very old like that. I think we still more comfortable calling each other by the names.

We will be acting Ramayana (yes, yet again) on 22.06.08 and 29.06.08. Haiz, it's a bad idea to act the same show on both days cuz it's hard to get audiences. Too bad this show was organised by COI and they wanted us to do Ramayana because the CC had sponsored some fees for the Iran trip. And so, we had to do the Iran version of Ramayana with the same cast. However, as we got lots of students, we can now have more maids and soldiers. In Iran, YH had to perform 3 roles but now she doesn't need to do that. That means she has got only one scene and after that she can wait for xie mu. There is a trend in COI now to be soldiers rather than maids. Maybe cuz they see our soldier so cute that day so they want to try too. On Saturday, Ang was asking the newbies and the non-Iran actors if they want to do soldiers or maids. Apparently, most of them opted to be soldiers. I think it's the 'IN' thing now. SLP as I introduced before was on 31 May. Haiz, that day, I slacked at home and slept till 3.30pm!!! Can anyone actually believe that I sleep till 3.30pm? MD came to my place so that we can go down together but when he arrived, I was still sleeping. Hahaha.. damn sian sia. The poor fairies didn't fare well during the final rehearsal so they were summoned to go Little India rehearse at 1pm. Poor things. I waitied for Susan to lend me shoes that day and she cam at around 6pm. Then she sent us all to Little India. Hengz ah, no need to take MRT. Was carrying so many things. You are asking who is Mr Peng? Mr Peng is me la. Hahaha.. Cuz I acted as peng kia in SLP mah. So I am Mr Peng. For so many donkey years I never act as a soldier or sheng le. The fighting part was actually quite fun lah but then to do it on every Saturday and Wednesday during classes was boring. Fairies and gods started their show at aroun 10+pm. 3 more students joined COI. That officially makes COI GZX troupe a very crowded troupe. In fact, overly crowded. There are 21 students now and including Ang, we will have 22 actresses/actors. Ang is going to have problems squeezing in all the students into 1 show. I don't think there are lots of shows which have 22 roles. Bao Hua and Zhu Ying has joined us for some time so they are not considered newbie already (MD mentioned that they are newbies in his blog). The 3 newbies I am talking about are Wanru, Si Qing and Ai Qing. Si Qing and Ai Qing are not sisters. They just happened to have 'Qing' in their names. I have not taken pictures of Siqing and Aiqing but I will try to take some and blog. I have got a few pics of Wanru but I will blog another day. As usual, Ang did her usual rounds of asking whether the newbies want to be dan or be shengs. Frankly speaking, both roles are overly crowded already.
