Me, Myself & Opera

here are many things to blog about Iran. We had a really wonderful time there and I don't know what to blog first. So I think I will blog about performance first as it's the easiest to sort out. And we saw our photos outside the theatre. Notice the below yellow logo is for this festival. Interesting~ We performed for 2 nights, on the 11 and the 12, then the rest of the trip was spent playing! So shiok right. Fortunately our performance was on the first 2 days only. Sangelaj Theatre, the one that we acted in for 2 days. In the above photo, we were waiting for the guard to open up the doors for us. Notice that we all had our heads wrapped. All the women have to wrap their heads in Iran lor which was quite irritating. Sangelaj Theatre is a very small theatre and can only accomodate about 200+ audiences. Hahaha.. we got only 1 audience! Went to watch Pekin opera yesterday with some friends, YH and MD. I was very excited to watch the show as it's a very rare for a professional Pekin Opera troupe to come Singapore. Singapore don't have enough audience to suppor the troupe to come lor. So apparently, most of the top-notch actors are not here but there are 4 first grade actors. Not too bad. Unfortunately for yday night, only 1 of the first grade actors acted. The other 3 did not perform. I guess they will be performing on the second night ba.. Hee hee. .Fortunately, I got buy tickets for 2nd night also. I think overal the perfomance is not bad. Very professional. I like the Monkey King's actions. I think he is very agile and his somersaults and jumpings were very light. The monkey king also did lots of small little actions and expressions which enhanced his character, making him look really cute! Yay~ Flying this saturday le! So happy lor. Can go somewhere else in the world where nobody will normally go. Haha. Though I am looking forward to fly, I think this trip will not be a happy one because there will be lots of rehearsals and lecturing from Chua. Anyway, heck him lah! yay~ For the past 1 month or so, I have been struggling with the princess role and now I can finally more or less do it better. However there were still some scenes at the ending where I only rehearse ONCE. Can anybody imagine that? I will just follow Ang's movements and act accordingly. No choice. I don't think we will get to rehearse much now. The scene where Ang and me are supposed to leave the palace via a boat was rehearsed about 4 times and everytime it was different! Ang apparently cannot remember the movements so everytime we rehearse that scene, she will just improvise her own. I told her that I will stand behind her and follow whatever she do. Beijing Opera Troupe is coming to perform again! I remembered that the last time they came was like 4 or 5 years ago and at that time I cannot afford to watch because the tickets are very ex. Now, they are coming again and though tickets are still ex, I will still go watch. They are performing for 4 nights, 2 night showing the same show. This time they are performing excerpts instead of whole show which I think is a better idea. Singapore audience as you know.. Apparently there are not many audience in Singapore who appreciates Pekin Opera much less the SINGING part of Pekin Opera. So this time, they are performing ALL martial arts excerpts. That will prevent the audience from falling asleep. All the 6 excerpts are action packed. Venue: Victoria Theatre Date: 21-24 Feb Time: 7.30pm Ticket: $48, $68, $98, $128 Pretty expensive tickets.
