Me, Myself & Opera

Today, i have been listening to some kunqu sang by Shi xiao mei. Her voice is indeed mesmerizing. Hence, today i want to introduce my favourite Xiao Sheng, Shi Xiao Mei. The first time I watched Kunqu was the performance in Esplanade, an experimental Kunqu with some special effects. I didn't know what was kunqu at that time and my friend told me that it is sang in mandarin, something like jingju. I decided to watch this opera because the Kunqu actress, Shi xiao mei looks cool on the flyers. That was the first time I watch Kunqu and I was mesmerized by it and fell in love with Kunqu. The graceful movements, the crystal clear voice of Shi Xiao Mei, it was all so delicate. I was blown away! The whole excerpt of 'Jiao Hua' was so good that i was left in a daze after the show. I kept remembering her voice, remembering her movements. It was the first time i saw something so delicate, so detailed. So cool~ SL organised a trip to Kusu Island to do a small performance and to pray. SL specially booked 2 boats and requested for the island to be opened for us. It is a yearly event and we go to Kusu island every year after the ninth month guan yin dan. We arrived at the Clifford pier at around 5:30pm. Then we waited for the rest to arrive. In the meantime, Mr Lim's daughter was the center of attraction. The kids can't stop playing with her because she is just soooo cute! The kids are looking at their digital cameras, going to take photos for Mr Lim's daughter, bao bao. I said before, my sister can squat anywhere. Here she is, squatting, with susan companying her! The man in black is our macho director. Once again you see them crowding over bao bao. In the boat and off we go! La la la... Isn't this photo beautiful?? I took it at the deck of the boat. yeah.... Today i finally performed with my stupid muffle voice. So disgraceful to show it off to my so many friends but i know they are benevolent and will forgive me one. :P I am very happy because my friend, James (he wants me to mention that he ORD finally), took many many lots of beautiful photos of me!! yippess.. Esctatic. So in this entry, you are going to see alot of my faces. If you don't like my face, you can exit my blog now. :D The first show was 'kick ball'. In this show I act as ah gui, as well as the ball kicking girls. Actually in both excerpts, i act as ah gui. a friend mentioned that my voice is muffled, cannot hear properly what i say. Sad leh. Please tell me what to do! I am once again sick but this time, i have a performance just 2 days away!. I am suffering from sorethroat and flu and this will affect my singing. Haiz.. i am very upset because i wanted so much to do well in this coming show. Anyone with a super remedy that can cure sorethroats in 2 days, please kindly leave it in my comments. :(

SL upcoming performance at Telok Ayer this coming friday. I am quite nervous about it. hee hee.. Though i have done these excerpts quite a few times before, i hope that i can do better this time. :D The programme shall include a musical piece, 4 singing pieces and 2 liyuanxi excerpts. There is one singing piece which i think is quite interesting. It is actually like a conversation between four characters from the opera 'chen san wu niang' and one of the characters is singing in chinese. I had a rehearsal at SL on Saturday, we were rehearsing for the show on 21 Oct. The show was 'Lian Hua Lao'. We had a fun time rehearsing as the show was very funny and the actions and script was very funny too. The one wearing the red skirt is playing Zheng Yuan He. She is not really a professional actress but she is a professional singer. So, she is playing Zheng Yuan He cuz this role only needs to sing, no movements. The above picture is a bit blur but ok la.. can still see overall what we are doing. hee hee... my camera phone is not so good. ************************************ This morning, me, my mum and my sis went to Guang Ming Shan to sing a few pieces. It was the death annivesary of a monk i think. Then we had lunch at the temple, vegetarian steam boat. :D It was raining very badly when we wanted to return home.
