San Qian Liang Jin

AC commented some time ago that recently he was quite interested in this song. I thought I might upload a video of us rehearsing it~

Rehearsals are still going fine but I am quite stress over the drama parts as I am still not that familiar with the parts.




This scene is one of the most rehearsed scene as there is a lot of co-ordination work between the 4 beggars. They tried their best but sometimes they still make minor blunders.

I am very busy recently. Making Poster for our MLJ show, rehearsing and eating with my friends.

I ask you, should the lyrics be "朝思暮想，只都是我为着风流才行来" or "朝思暮想，只都是我为着功名才行来"? Seems like only Liyuanxi sing the first way, but Gaojiaxi and Nanyin use the second way..

In lyx, it's 风流. LYX songs and the nanyin version always differ abit in the words. My guess is perhaps nanyin wants their lyrics sounds more classy ba.

I never saw the gjx version before so I don't know.

Tell you lor.. there is forever a war between ny, gjx and lyx. They would rather die then cross the line and perform each other's pieces. For example, a nanyin singer will hate to sing for a opera piece and they will think that opera pieces are not class enough.

opera ppl does not hate ny as much but they will avoid singing ny too becuz the ny ppl were hostile. Then LYX and GJX needless to say, are always at war. They will not perform each other's traditional piece. Mad right.

but GJX's 桃花过渡 is from LYX, and same goes for 陈三五娘, even the actions are similar! LYX will certainly not act GJX shows, because the acting and music styles are not quite the same. Oh ya, for GJX there's no "Li Ya Xian", but I saw an excerpt on this "San Qian Liang Jin", sung by Xiamen Jin Lian Sheng's Wu Jingjing only.

Ok, I will take a look when I get back home or maybe later when I go SL, I can't see videos here in my office.

According to what I know, gjx indeed too shows from lyx to perform but that was long ago and 'tao hua guo du' has formally became the traditional show of GJX. They did both perform chen san wu niang but except for this famous one, I didn't come across anymore show that both of them share.

These old teachers of the opera and ny troupes instilled the wrong info to their young students. Told them bad things about other opera forms and told them not to follow their style. NY troupes' teachers told their students not to play for opera and said bad things about the ly and gj troupes. very stupid one lor.

btw, the xiamen's version of nanyin and opera is quite diff from quanzhou one. they created their own style somehow.

I think that could be due to cultural differences between these 2 places. The southern Hokkien regions are VERY DIVERSE in their own culture!

A very crowded troupe

3 more students joined COI. That officially makes COI GZX troupe a very crowded troupe. In fact, overly crowded. There are 21 students now and including Ang, we will have 22 actresses/actors. Ang is going to have problems squeezing in all the students into 1 show. I don't think there are lots of shows which have 22 roles. Bao Hua and Zhu Ying has joined us for some time so they are not considered newbie already (MD mentioned that they are newbies in his blog). The 3 newbies I am talking about are Wanru, Si Qing and Ai Qing. Si Qing and Ai Qing are not sisters. They just happened to have 'Qing' in their names. Holland Rd Performance

Yesterday we had a performance at Holland Road Blk 2. I was doing the excerpt 'Broken Bridge' of Madam white snake and the others were doing Tang Bo Hu. I couldn't find a Xu Xian (YH dun like this role) so I got no choice but to ask Naiba for help. Heng he was free that day to help us. Kanglong found a very nice spot to take photos and everyone took photos at that spot.... I think this spot is nice too with the pillar behind and the flowers and the white background... Me and Naiba... Hmm, too bad his face kana hidden in shadow lor. Susan as green snake. I didn't realise that she was wearing the costume wrongly lor.. haiz, too late to inform her liao... I like to act with Naiba cuz I don't look fat with him. I stomach pain... need to go toilet... :P Pain until cannot walk le.... sob sob... Cannot find toilet, I very sad.... I believe the toilet is there..... Cannot find toilet, I think I better take a break here... Believe me, I know where the toilet is.... Green sn...

I was browsing the internet looking at opera related videos when I came across a song 'N+1' sang by Chris Lee. Man, I was surprised by the opera elements in the song! She combined hip hop and chinese opera (like Jay and Lee Hom) and the MTV is quite nice. It's like abit of hip hop dance and some chinese opera. Chris Lee even dressed up in opera 'wu dan' costume! Hee hee, but she looked a bit weird. Her actions are good but looks wise, weird. Ok, the MTV. I should learn to sing this song. Lol...
