Yew Keng

Naiba asked me to help him dress up as one of the 8 immortals to join him in yew keng 游景 on 17.05.08. I heartily said ok but I regretted it soon after. Unfortunately, Naiba wouldn't allow me to back out so I have to do it no matter I want or not.

Eventually the whole event turned out to be quite interesting though tiring.

We went to Bukit Batok at about 3.30pm to do our make up, the yew keng should start around 6pm. The wind so damn big as we tried to do our make up at the void deck. It was a challenge as my hands cannot draw steadily with the super big winds.

Naiba doing make up. When I was taking this photo, I already finished my make up and hairdo but naiba has only just started doing make up. Before that, he was doing make up for the other 'ji tong'. He only started doing his own make up at about 5pm.

Since Naiba was busy doing his make up, I walked around taking photos or random stuff I see.

Some indians were in this yew keng trip too. They were playing some music with their traditional drums.

This one has got the pole poked through his cheeks. EEeeewwww....

Not only did he poke his cheeks with a pole, he put hooks on his back too and hanged limes on them.Hooks being pierced through his back.

This man got ropes attached to the hooks behind his back and he is going to pull the altar throughout the whole procession!!!

Then the chinese ji tong pierce swords on their back too..

Ouch! That's gonna hurt!

Enough of painful pictures.. Let's look at the pretty 8 immortals. :)

Nai ba said Tian got 'hock siong' so ask her do Zhang Guo Lao. Why Zhang Guo Lao must be hock siong leh? hmmm....

Me as He Xian Gu. Naiba didn't tell me what colour I am wearing so turn out the hair pieces I bring like mismatch the costume. However, I think the flower on my head matched the flowers in my hands.

The procession haven't start so we rested at the void deck and I took photo of myself. At this time, Qian Yun jie jie tried to arrange the hair pieces on my head and she actually put a unlighted cigarette on the flower hair piece!

A minute later, Naiba saw it and ask me what is a cigarette doing on my hair.... And then I realised it.

So I took down the cigarette.

See what see? Never see Xian Gu smoke before ah?

We lined up ready to start our procession. Our procession, to my astonishment, lasted 2.5hrs! My god, I am surprised my feed never break apart from all that walking. We hardly rested along the way!

Immortals also can get thirsty ok?

Around every 10 - 15 minutes of walking, we will come across lorries carrying cold mineral water I think the organiser set them up along the route so as to provide us with drinking cold. It was so damn hot and tiring. Fortunately, the procession was at night so it was still quite bearable.

For the benefits of my blog readers, I took out my camera while on the procession to take photos. I don't think a xian gu should walk around with a camera in her hand but no choice lor, I have to show my blog readers!

I am so nice right? hahaha.. :P

The procession was very very very long. So long that I cannot see the head and cannot see the tail of it. Along the way many people took photographs, some people hold joss sticks and pray to the ji tong.

The whole event ended at about 9pm and each of us recieved $40 for our efforts! Hee hee.. not bad la, better than nothing.
