Me, Myself & Opera

Teacher is going to have another workshop again this Sunday and she is asking me to sing the do ma again. Previously she had another workshop at Goodman road which I also sang the same song. Goodman road is really a Out-of-the-place place. It's like smack right in the middle of nowhere. I hate it. This time the workshop will be at San Qing Gong, yep, where ponyo used to work. Ponyo is coming to SG again~ That's great news, we can go shopping and watch movies! LOL... So this Sunday the workshop at san qing gong will probably start around 3pm. I haven't practiced that do ma singing since the last workshop and I seriously doubt if I still remember. My mum took a video that day I can post here. But please don't laugh at my singing.. It's not good as per usual but I already tried my best. Moreover I was quite nervous to sing like that. I don't like to sing standing. And that is also the reason why I don't like to sing nanyin. Oh My god, I just realised that I didn't blog anything for exactly one whole month! LOL.... What have I been doing for the whole month, I have no idea myself. Yesterday I went for this video shoot for my Skin Painting aka 画皮. I was acting as ghost who seduced a man and became his 小三. While being his little three, I sucked his blood. Finally I was killed, or rather, Zhuying my scape goat was killed by a taoist. I kinda like the role. I had a very very rushed Thursday evening. First of all, I cannot take time off. Ever since my new HR manager came, she abolished our time off system. I can only take half day. So I decided to go after work. Teacher was pretty worried that i might not make it in time because she wanns shoot early at maybe around 7:30pm and the location was bloody hell Henderson. So teacher sent Zhuying to drive her black horse to pick me up at my office and then  I can do make up in the car. I was afraid that ZY might not know where my office is though it...

Sometimes I read my old posts and I think I am really crazy. If I don't know me and I am someone else reading all these posts, I will think the writer is a bit gila.. something not right somewhere. I read this just now: Halfway throughout the practice, a stupid small, very small bug fly around in front of me!! PEK CEK!!! Then suay suay enough that little bug stopped on my forehead!! I was like.... I was so... I wanna smack it so bad! But I can't! I had to concentrate on acting but that bug really distracted me like mad and it itches as it was like walking around my forehead! What the hell lor!!! If we were rehearsing 18 miles, I will brush it off. Apparently the bug tot that my forehead is a no-man's land, it can just walk around like nobody else's business..... It was called 比文招亲 before and now the name is 巧合姻缘. I actually prefer the first name than the latter. It matches the story more. In this show, I was acting as a fierce, 38 and crazy mother. I acted a 38 role before as Bird Nest in Forced to be a Doctor. But that role isn't really the same as this one. This one is fiercer. I actually quite miss acting as Bird Nest. I wasn't very sure about acting this role at first because it doesn't fall into my usual type of roles but I gave it a try anyway. The key is to be thick skin. You can't be too bothered about how others are looking at you. LOL, I bet when I was a kid, I never in my life imagined that I will one day do something like this. In fact, I was such a timid and scaredy-cat kid. I had terrible stage fright. I always want to hide in the corner and hope that teacher won't call my name. I hate it when people look at me. Ever wondered why a 三花 is called a 三花 and not 二花？ In my latest research (done while I was looking for info for my slides), a 三花 is actually categorised under face painting, 花脸. 花脸 as we know is under the 净's 行当. Therefore I have never associated 三花 with the 花脸净. 三花 is under the 丑's 行当. It is common knowledge that 正净 are also called 大花脸 and 正净 are the main role in a performance. For example like 包公. Then there is the 副净 which are the second line roles under 净. They are normal not the main leads but they also play an important part in the performance. Under 副净, there is a category called the 二花脸 who takes on small roles. Normally a side kick or something, a small part in the show. And the 二花脸 are most of the time half serious, half comical. They do comical things but not as much as the clowns. Therfore, we have 三花脸 which major fully in comical roles. The name then slowly evolved into what we know now as 三花. 正月点灯红，点啊点灯红，顶卢烧香伊都下卢香。 I am now learning 桃花搭渡 for my next guan yin dan show. It is on 11 March. I was very happy to know that we are learning this because this show has been frozen for many years. Finally it is seeing the day again! Although this time we are not acting this show like an opera show but more of a 曲艺 style, I am stil happy to learn it. It means that we will not be dressing in opera costumes, we will be performing in our normal uniforms. Also, the original very long show has been cut short to 15 minutes. The middle part has been cut off. But we will keep the January to June singing part. That is like the classic lor. There will be 2 tao hua and 2 ah peks. One pair will be of course me and Susan. The other pair will surprise you, Li juan and shi bao. These 2 disappeared from SL long long time ago. More than 10 years. They now making a come back with this tao hua da dor show. On 17 March we will be performing 比文招亲 at Henderson CC. We have acted this show in Malaysia but we haven't acted in Singapore yet. I think teacher is rather nervous about this performance because... 1) Our female lead is Xin En and it's the first time she doing female lead. 2) Xin En wasn't able to come for a lot of rehearsals. 3) We haven't tried combining rehearsals with the drums yet. 4) Our dearest LZ said she cannot act in this show so we are short of one actress. And so the anxiety is building up. Nonetheless, I believe these all will be ironed out nicely in the end and our show will go on smoothly, like it always does. Our next show will be 王宝钏 and recently we started rehearsing a little here and there. I was being assigned 王宝钏 and it is a major ku dan role. I am not really good at ku dan-ish roles but I will not comment or say anything about the roles given to me.
