Proper Rehearsal
I simply don't understand why COI just cannot properly rehearse a show? Is it THAT difficult? Since they think that this Iran show is so bloody important then why is the preparation so badly done?
COI just sucks at organising things. To think they are named Chinese Opera Institute of Singapore and yet they are so disorganised.
Before anything should start, a well organised troupe should start off with a complete script. That is the most most initial stage. The script is very important because it is the soul of the show, the bones. BUT! COI didn't prepare the script at all and we were all supposed to follow the 45min VCD. Then 1 or 2 weeks ago, they decided that they should extend the show to 90 minutes. I mean if you should know right from the beginning how long the show should be and not start to add in scenes after everyone started rehearsing. That is so crap.
Before the rehearsal of a show, the people in charge should decide who to do what role right? That is the most basic. But apparently, our dearest COI thinks that it doesn't matter who do what role because when we started rehearsing, we were all learning many different roles because COI is undecided which person should do which role.
So we all wasted time learning other roles which we are not going to do. They gave a very good excuse that we should take the chance to learn more. I agree provided that we are 6 months ahead of performance. Then we have time to learn other roles. Why the hell are we learning other roles when we are 1 mth away from performance and we are still fumbling with our own roles???
Ridiculous.
It's all very stupid. I just hate the way COI do things. Never for once did they arrange the preparations of a show in a professional way. NEVER.
SL is just an association. It is not a Nanyin Institute and yet things were so so much better. We even got a rehearsal time table where it clearly states which scenes will be rehearsed on which day. Then we can plan in advance.
We do still have changes to the script during rehearsal stage but that is to make the plot better. It's not like adding another 45 min to the show you know. What COI is good at is talk. Talk talk talk.. Talk until white becomes black and black becomes white.
Rehearsals in SL is always a very relax and enjoyable thing but rehearsal is COI is full of stress. I dun mean that rehearsals are very easy and non stress in SL, it's just that because we are fully aware what we are supposed to do and that cut down stress. In COI, they never give clear instructions. Today it's like this, tomorrow they change.
Haiz... can't we just have a PROPER rehearsal? Can't we just have a more organised reheasal? Fix everything and not change at the last minute. I know that maybe they want to change for the better but that should be done earlier. Not one day before the show. It will only add stress to the actress and maybe she can perform better but because you change some stupid thing then the actress becomes stress and cannot perform up to her normal standard. This is adding on unneccessary stress.
