Mu lian saves his Mum

Since it's mother's day, we decided to do this show, Mulian saves his mother, at Poh Ern Temple on 1st and 2nd May. It's a fund raising show for the temple so the prices for the tickets are quite steep. The ticket does include dinner tho prepared by Lingzhi Vegetarian Restuarant.

I think the temple is beautiful. It's not like the traditional kind of temple we see. This is the first and only 'green' temple in Singapore. The energy consumed in this temple are all generated from the solar panels installed on the roof and the solar panel pagoda.

This is the stage where we would perform.

Nice right?

I like the roof which is in the shape of the lotus flowers. And I also like those surrounding silk made curtains with the staff embroidered. I heard that this set of 'curtains' were made by the descendants of the imperial tailors in China. And this set of curtains worth a hefty $300,000!

Beware of scary photo ahead! Its a photo of me but it's super scary!!

Scary bo?

Yiying treats me like her best friend and she likes to play with me~ LOL. I told her that I know her teacher and she was very surprised!

And this is me in my second role! LOL, I first time do 3 hua but I think I did it pretty ok. Heh.

My mum couldn't stop laughing when she saw my make up! All thanks to Li Shuai Min teacher.

The female lead, the mother of Mulian, caught by the 黑白无常.

This is my teacher, now acting as Mulian, and KL standing eerily behind.

My 3 other partners. We are acting as ghosts together!

Li Shuai Min Teacher drew himself this really hideous make up.

Me and Feng Min. This is before I was transformed into the laughing ghost.

We also employed a modern make up artiste to create a modern make up for an ambiguous role in our show. Ru wang was acting as the ambiguous role.

Li Shuai Min doing make up for 阎罗王, the king of Hades.

Qy helping us to alter costumes and put them on for the actors.

Make up for the 黑无常

This cat was like enjoying the breeze or sunlight warmth. I dunno. But I think it's very funny.

Notice the background? The 4 panels? I designed those~ Hee hee but it took me a lot of work to complete them and I didn't have much time.

The 4 background panels tell the story of Mulian.

This is the famous solar panel pagoda.

The pagoda faces the sea.

The exhibition area has this box thing with a wig and some scraps of cloth inside. It's supposed to look like a woman trapped in her own world of desires.

I decided to take a photo with the trapped woman.

Poor ghost.

Feng min trying to take a photo of herself~

The monkey family.

Then it's time to take some fun photos with the black and whit ghost catchers.

Pretending to be scared!

Dun catch me!

Tian took 2 photos for us from the far side of the stage.

Me~ And Biyu and teacher!

Then KL turn! He is going to catch the spirit of Mulian's mother.

Hahaha. We are the cute ghosts!

I dun need to smile with that make up. LOL I just need to look at the camera will do. Thanks!

We the little ghosts and our 'boss'. Hahah

This fan was a free gift for the guests that day. :)

Our feedback was very good on that day. Many ppl who never saw opera before was surprised that they actually enjoyed it. An audience told Teacher that she was very touched after watching it. SL's performance always has good feedbacks but it also involves alot of hard work from a lot of people to gain this success..

littlebird,

wow, you design the panel, nice, good for you!!

You are not scary, i think the price of the curtains are scarier....

Your teacher did a nice job on his own make up (drawing mask).

ac: seriously, I wouldn't watch it if I were you too because it's so expensive!

little bird: thanks for the comment. Mask drawing is a long process, many times the actors will fall asleep while being drawn. Very funny.

Hi Nicole, you can get costumes from house of costumes which I think one at Rochor Street and another at Arab street.

In this case the may the actor can lie down, so that when he fall asleep, his head won't move.

ya lor... it's just too pricey... just wondering.. this show is not in the traditional liyuanxi repertoire if I didn't remember wrongly, so did u all based it on the dachengxi version?
Miko said…
little bird: hahah then the teacher will have a hard time drawing his face!

ac: We used a liyuanxi script and we designed all the movements so I dun think we got follow the da cheng xi version. This time,we include some modern dance in the show so it's not exactly the same as the traditional lyx.
