Me, Myself & Opera

I went to see 'Tears of Barren Hill' on Tuesday. And yes, I went alone. I don't think anyone would pay $42 to see something they don't understand. I was glad that I went to see regardless of what because I loved it! I may not understand the show but I enjoyed the experience. The show is a production in memory of Cheng Yan Qiu's 50th death anniversary. Cheng Yan Qiu is one of the greatest dan in China. Best of all, I get to see Shi Xiao Mei LIVE! I have only seen her once before when she did the Dream of Freud show in SG some years ago. I am very happy this time to see once again her charm on stage. Hee hee. This time, she acted as a dan. I was so surprised! She sang as a dan and WITHOUT a mic. My god, the voice is so powerful. Without the mic I can listen clearly to the power of her voice. I love it. Awww... Years ago, I first watched a production from this troupe, 十二面体, and it was also the first time I watched Kunqu. From then on, I fell in love with the melodious and sorrowful tunes of Kunqu. It also introduced a wonderful actress called Shi Xiao Mei to me. This time, they are coming to perform again and the show is 'Tears of Barren Hill'. The name belongs to a traditional Pekin Opera show but they are now presenting an experimental version of it. Doubtless, I won't be able to understand these kinds of experimental shows but I am still excited to see it! BECAUSE, Shi Xiao Mei will be there too and I am sure there will be some nice singings for me.. :D Yay, I got a ticket for 3 Feb. It's the only day I am free next week. I wouldn't reccomend people to watch this because they will come back to me and kp that they don't understand a thing. Well, that is normal. I have been very fated to go to Indonesia. Once again, I am assigned to go Jakarta to perform but this time, I am going with SL~ Yippee, never go overseas with them before so I think it will be quite fun. SL got some very fun people too. To go Jakarta perform, I must learn a percussion instrument tho. It's the 4 bao. I haven't really been learning this instrument so recently, SL has been coaching me to use it. So far still ok. Nope, no opera this time, just Nanyin music. I will be leaving probably on 20 Feb and coming back 4 days later. Mung mung is going with me again!

Went to Kuang Wai Hospital for a charity show on 17 Jan. I like to do charity shows for the old folks although I don't get any money for it. Many people are like me too, they like to perform at old folks home. That day, I acted liu san with YH. I seldom get to act with YH because we don't really have a chance. YH felt that we have got mo qi with each other. I felt so too. I have known YH for quite some time and although not as long as some other friends of her, we talked about a lot of things so I sort of know what she is thinking sometimes. Today I went for photo shooting at SL for the GWJ show. It was a fine experience for me because I finally got the chance to do a FULL DATOU! Wahahaha. I am so happy cuz I have been wanting to do da tou for a long time and today I finally got the chance. Overall, I liked the effects of the da tou, think it's a refreshing new look for me but the feeling of having it on my head was not good! My head was throbbing with pain within 15 minutes. Then I feel a bit dizzy and nauseous after that. I think I will request not to tie it so tight during the show. Hahaha this is what we call Xue Pen Da Kou. Scary big red mouth of Uncle Lim.
