CCTV Opera Night 2006
Yippie! I bought the Vcds for the CCTV opera night and I finished 3 vcds in one night. Almost died.. :P
Overall, I think the show is better than the one in 2005. It has more variety or opera and more interesting stuff like xiang sheng etc.
The show started off with a song as in the picture above. The singers sang the song with the voice of their own Hang Dang. The bald ones are normall Jing actors. hee hee..
The show then went on with some singing parts of different opera types. I quite like that part as it was an eye opener to see other rare opera types. Also, several opera types made changes to their looks but I felt that some opera types uses very ugly wigs. I don't know it it is one of their trademarks to use such a wig but the wig is really ugly:
Anyway, I love the new look of the cantonese opera. I think I have already posted that photo in my blog before. I got a deep impression of another show. That is the singing of the Tan family. The grandfather, father and son sing together in one excerpt. Kinda cute right.
Look! 3 generations of lao sheng! Actually since Tan Xin Pei to the latest generation, the Tan family already has 7 generations of laoshengs!!!!
Another part which I like is 2 kiddy and one caucasian singing pekin opera. The caucasian was not bad but one of the kids was very good. His expression is so cool. So unlike a kid.
I heard of Yueju prince , zhao zhi gang , before but I have never really seen his performance. This time, I heard him sing the part, Panqi suoqi. I like this song very much leh and was rather disappointed that they gave a man to sing it. Surprisingly, this zhaozhigang does not have a gruff voice. His voice is still considered quite clear. I still don't quite like the idea of a man acting in Yueju as I am so used to watching an all-girls troupe. The rest of the yueju excerpts are nice. I like them.
i also like the San Jia Fu, gezaixi, excerpt. The songs are so familiar to me.. :) I think the excerpt is kind of cute too.

BTW, MK, you are going to drain yourself out by watching 3 discs consecutively. For me, I shall jump straight to my favourite opera genres as Peking Opera usually "monopolise" the whole chinese opera variety show.
MK: You got it from overseas or locally? I am quite surprised that the discs already out so fast? Cant be this month rite? CNY just passed a few weeks ago.Wow...China really releases their vcds so fast!
Unless the opera variety shows were pre-recorded.
ERm... yah la... pekin opera monopolise the show but pekin opera got lots of fans mah plus is national opera so it's bobian.
Pekin opera also not bad la, after watching it for some time.
I prefer peking musical types with orchestra music.^^

I remembered you watched the 2005 version last year over the TV.
I hope that they will give us CCTV 11!!! I will love starhub and sign up with them for all the mobile phones in my family!!!!
