Zhai Hua

Plucking flowers, zhai hua, is a traditional show of Liyuan opera. It is actually an excerpt of "Dong Yong", in huang mei xi named "Qi xian Nv". The huang mei version of this show is very famous and I think all of you should have heard of it before.

However, in the liyuan version, it is different. In huangmei, the qi xian nv will try to block the path of dong yong when dong yong was on his way to work as a slave. In the liyuan version, dongyong was already working as a gardener and qi xian nv went into his garden to see him. In the garden, she plucked many flowers and made Dong yong very angry. Dongyong wanted to bring her to see his master but qi xian nv said that she can put the flowers back. So she proceeded to put the flowers back with her magical powers.

Dong yong was amazed and asked her how she do it. Qi xian nv said that the secret method can be only passed to family members. Dong yong blur blur didnt know what she meant. Finally, qi xian nv told him that husband and wife are considered a family too andthey finally got married under the huai yin tree.

I just tell u the gist of the story la, didnt go into the details.

This is a traditional liyuan show, so it is performed on a small stage. As mentioned in Amai's blog before, the actors use more hand gestures than water sleevs. That is becuz their stage is too small to perform water sleeves.

Actually the huangmei opera version is called "Tian Xian Pei"! And you forgot to add that while "Tian Xian Pei" is a full-length existing show, "Dong Yong" had become an "extinct show" already, only "Zhai Hua" still has the script and scores.

Who's the actress acting as the fairy maiden? Is it Dai Bingbing? She is quite good in such young, lively roles. I like Zhang Chunji, the actor acting as Dong Yong. He may not be a top-notched actor, but still not too bad.

Yah... AC is right, Zhai hua is the only excerpt left for this show,Tian Xian Pei. So you see, liyuanxi is very precious, not much show left. Most of them are extinct and liyuanxi's popularity was taken over by GZX.

Yah, I felt that Zhang Chun Ji is not bad too. He looks better than huang bing tong also.

How can you compare Zhang Chunji and Huang Bingtong? Zhang Chunji is a young uncle and Huang Bingtong is an old uncle! Hee..... But Huang Bingtong's acting quite good leh!

I am so sorry.. heehee... I only mention that Zhang Chun Ji looks better but I didnt say huang bing tong is not a good actor! He acted well too, next time will post his clip.

That's why I said... compare an old uncle to young uncle.. it's like comparing Wu Youqing to those young dans in the liyuanxi troupes.. haha..

3 more students joined COI. That officially makes COI GZX troupe a very crowded troupe. In fact, overly crowded. There are 21 students now and including Ang, we will have 22 actresses/actors. Ang is going to have problems squeezing in all the students into 1 show. I don't think there are lots of shows which have 22 roles. Bao Hua and Zhu Ying has joined us for some time so they are not considered newbie already (MD mentioned that they are newbies in his blog). Holland Rd Performance

Yesterday we had a performance at Holland Road Blk 2. I was doing the excerpt 'Broken Bridge' of Madam white snake and the others were doing Tang Bo Hu. I couldn't find a Xu Xian (YH dun like this role) so I got no choice but to ask Naiba for help. Heng he was free that day to help us. Kanglong found a very nice spot to take photos and everyone took photos at that spot.... I think this spot is nice too with the pillar behind and the flowers and the white background... Me and Naiba... Hmm, too bad his face kana hidden in shadow lor. Susan as green snake. I didn't realise that she was wearing the costume wrongly lor.. haiz, too late to inform her liao... I like to act with Naiba cuz I don't look fat with him. I stomach pain... need to go toilet... :P Pain until cannot walk le.... sob sob... Cannot find toilet, I very sad.... I believe the toilet is there..... Cannot find toilet, I think I better take a break here... Believe me, I know where the toilet is.... Green sn...

I was browsing the internet looking at opera related videos when I came across a song 'N+1' sang by Chris Lee. Man, I was surprised by the opera elements in the song! She combined hip hop and chinese opera (like Jay and Lee Hom) and the MTV is quite nice. It's like abit of hip hop dance and some chinese opera. Chris Lee even dressed up in opera 'wu dan' costume! Hee hee, but she looked a bit weird. Her actions are good but looks wise, weird. Ok, the MTV. I should learn to sing this song. Lol...
