Guan Fu Song
I just bought another GaoJia opera from SL named, 管甫送.
The story is a guy from Quan zhou named Guan Fu went to Taiwan for business and fell in love with a girl there named Mei Juan. One day, Guan Fu's parents ask him to return to Quan zhou and Guan Fu went to bid Mei Juan farewell. Mei Juan was very upst but sent him to the quay.
This opera is done by a san hua and a hua dan and it is only an excerpt. We seldom get to see a clown as a main lead in GZX and cantonese opera etc. Alot of opera types prefer to have the handsome sheng and the pretty dan as main lead. In pekin opera, I saw alot of clowns who were main leads like 'Chun cao chuang tang', 'Xiao Shang Fen' etc...
Gaojia opera is very good with the san huas. They also have alot of show which have the san huas as main leads. Guan Fu Song is one of them. I was surprised to see that the main sheng is a san hua in this show as the story sounds like the main sheng will be a handsome sheng. Actually Pekin opera and Kunqu has a lot of very prominent clowns. Don't think that clowns are not important!
The excerpt i cut below has this san hua playing with a walking stick. I like the way he plays with it, very nice. And the hua dan did alot of nice hua dan's movements too, very cute.
As this story happened in taiwan, there is alot of taiwan songs in the show. I was rather surprised also as Gaojia use mainly Nanyin for their singing tunes. This is the first time I saw Gao Jia opera with taiwan tunes. Nice though... I like.
